Why an additional lock for hatches & habitation doors makes sense
External hatches and rear garages often provide quick access to tools, equipment or luggage. An additional lock significantly raises the barrier – especially when the contents are valuable or the vehicle is frequently left unattended.
How the HEOSafe auxiliary lock works
The bolt engages behind the door frame and mechanically locks the hatch or door. The lock consists of an inner and outer housing that are screwed together – in many cases no additional door reinforcement is required because both housings “clamp” the door together.

Important compatibility & installation notes
Please check before drilling: This lock is very universal, but does not fit every installation situation without modification.
- Gap / shimming: The spacer plates compensate 2–22 mm. If the distance between the door leaf and the frame is outside this range, the lock may not be adjustable correctly.
- Door thickness: generally suitable for 20–90 mm. With very thick doors, longer screws may be required (many sets are supplied with screws for up to approx. 45 mm wall thickness as standard).
- Substrate/reinforcement: With very thin hatches/doors (sandwich construction, low load-bearing inner frame), additional reinforcement may be advisable. In practice, service hatches/hatch frames are not always sufficiently “load-bearing” for screws depending on the build – please check beforehand.
- Space & geometry: You need a sufficiently flat mounting surface inside/outside; on strongly curved surfaces, unfavourable sealing lips, recessed handles or fittings, installation may be restricted.
Our tip: If you are unsure whether your hatch/door is suitable, check the available dimensions (door thickness, gap) and the mounting surface beforehand to avoid mis-drilling.
Installation (quick overview)
- Close the door/hatch, position the inner housing at the desired height on the edge and check operation.
- Mark the drilling points (screws + driver rod) and drill precisely.
- Insert the outer housing, shim with the spacer plates so that the clearance to the frame is approx. 2 mm.
- Adjust the driver rod to length (must not protrude) and screw everything together.
Note: When tightening, do not use a cordless screwdriver. The locking direction is factory-set clockwise and can be changed if required (rotate the bolt set by 180°).
