With the continuing boom in the camping industry, the number of break-ins in motorhomes is unfortunately also increasing. Vehicles based on the Fiat Ducato - and identical models such as the Citroën Jumper, Peugeot Boxer and Opel Movano (from 2021) - are particularly affected. The reason: recurring weak points in doors, locks and windows often make it easy for burglars.

In this article, we will show you the most effective measures to better secure your motorhome on the road and at home - with a focus on mechanical and electronic security measures, supplemented by helpful tips on how to behave.

1. ward off the "prick attack": Prickstop protection plates

A common burglary method is the so-called "prick attack". This involves piercing the door panel below the door handle with a pointed object in order to manipulate the central locking system. This method works frighteningly easily on many Ducato-based vehicles - unless you protect yourself with suitable reinforcement plates.

Our solution: The Prickstop protection plates are fitted at the critical points and make it impossible to pierce. Installation is simple and the protection is permanent. The system is even more effective in combination with our security stickers - which act as a deterrent to potential offenders.

2. additionally securing doors - universal motorhome door protection

Unsecured driver and passenger doors are another gateway for thieves. Many campers use simple methods such as tension belts or seat belts to connect the door handles together. However, this can be quickly cut in an emergency.

Better: Our universal motorhome door lock uses solid metal brackets and a lock that works in a similar way to a steering wheel lock. The advantage: even if a window is smashed, the door remains unusable. It is simply fitted on the inside between the door handles. However, this lock only works on models with "normal" handles, not with narrow handles such as the Ducato 8.

💡 Prickstop vs. door lock - why both are important:

A prick attack triggers the central locking system - all connected doors are unlocked. The prickstop plates reliably prevent this attack, but cannot prevent a door from being opened mechanically if the window is smashed or the lock is forced open.

This is where the door lock comes into play: it connects the driver and front passenger door with a solid bracket construction, effectively blocking access - even if the window is smashed.

Our tip: install the Prickstop permanently and use the door lock flexibly depending on the security situation.

3. rear door lock - effective protection for the rear

The rear doors are also popular with burglars. The standard lock on the Fiat Ducato and similar vehicles is often easy to defeat. An additional mechanical lock can make a big difference here.

Our recommendation: Prickstop's rear door locking system consists of two stainless steel brackets that are mounted on the inside of the doors. They are connected with a split pin or lock - so the door remains securely locked even if the lock is broken.

4. protection of the AdBlue filler neck

A less well-known but equally sensitive component is the unsecured AdBlue filler cap. The tank can be opened easily on many models - a risk of vandalism or contamination.

Our solution: The Prickstop AdBlue protection bracket is mounted behind the diesel tank cap and thus also protects the AdBlue filler neck. It is secured via the lockable fuel filler cap.

5. securing the windows and body

Windows - especially the triangular window - are also popular entry points. Depending on your budget, we recommend

  • Safety films for driver's cab windows (note: not always permitted!)
  • Metal profiles to reinforce the window frames (e.g. available from Womo-Sicherheit.de)
  • Additional bolts for body and sliding doors

Window contacts or bolts offer additional protection against levering out.

6. mechanical immobilizers - robust & reliable

To protect against vehicle theft, we offer a specially developed pedal lock for the Fiat Ducato. This solid steel construction blocks the brake pedal and cannot be easily removed.

Available for:

  • Fiat Ducato with manual transmission (year of construction 2006-2014 and 2014-2025)
  • Fiat Ducato with automatic transmission (from model year 2014)

These locks are simply hooked in and secured with a lock - ideal for longer downtimes or camping vacations.

7. electronic locks - for advanced protection

  • Park preferably in well-lit or monitored parking spaces
  • Do not leave any valuables in plain sight
  • Close all doors and windows whenever you are away
  • Keep an eye on people around you - even during the day
