With the ongoing boom in the camping industry, the number of break-ins into motorhomes is unfortunately also increasing. Vehicles based on the Fiat Ducato – as well as equivalent models such as the Citroën Jumper, Peugeot Boxer and Opel Movano (from 2021) – are particularly affected.
The reason lies in recurring design-related weak points in doors, locks and windows, which often allow thieves to gain access with little effort. Particularly problematic: many of these attacks are hardly recognisable as break-ins to outsiders.
In this guide, we show you the most effective measures to better secure your motorhome both on the road and at home – with a focus on mechanical and electronic security solutions, complemented by proven behaviour tips.

1. Prevent the Prick Attack – Prickstop protective plates
In the so-called Prick Attack, the door skin is deliberately pierced below the door handle to actuate the mechanism behind it and trigger the central locking system. Within seconds, all connected doors unlock.
Prickstop protective plates permanently reinforce exactly this weak point. Piercing is no longer possible – the attack fails.
Right: with Prickstop – effectively protected.
2. Additional door security – universal motorhome door lock
Even without a Prick Attack, the driver and passenger doors remain potential entry points – for example after a window has been smashed. Straps or belts can be cut quickly.
Better: the universal motorhome door lock mechanically connects both doors and blocks them reliably.
Why Prickstop + door lock work perfectly together:
Prickstop prevents the central locking system from being triggered. The door lock blocks the door itself – even if the window is destroyed.
3. Rear door locking – effective protection for the rear
Rear doors are often targeted when thieves can work undisturbed. Factory-fitted locks often offer only limited resistance.
The Prickstop rear door lock mechanically secures both doors from the inside – regardless of the condition of the original lock.
4. Protecting the AdBlue filler neck
An open or easily accessible AdBlue tank is vulnerable to vandalism or sabotage. Even small contaminations can cause costly damage.
The Prickstop AdBlue protection bar effectively protects the filler neck, as it is only accessible when the locked tank cap is opened.
5. Securing windows and body
Windows, rooflights and service hatches are among the classic weak points – especially at night or on quiet pitches.
- additional locks for opening windows
- lockable service hatches
- mechanical security for rooflights
6. Mechanical immobilisers
To protect against vehicle theft, we recommend a pedal lock for the Fiat Ducato. It blocks the brake pedal independently of electronics.
7. Electronic security systems
- GPS trackers
- Alarm systems
- Gas and motion detectors
8. Behaviour tips
- choose well-lit or busy parking spots
- do not leave valuables in plain sight
- always fully close doors and windows
Conclusion: multi-layered protection pays off
The best protection comes from a well-thought-out combination of protective plates, mechanical solutions, complementary electronics and careful behaviour.
This significantly increases the effort required for thieves – and provides greater security and peace of mind on your travels.
