HEOSafe product guide for motorhomes & panel vans

Which HEOSafe additional lock fits my Fiat Ducato?

The right HEOSafe security solution depends first on the vehicle type: a panel van needs different additional locks from a coachbuilt motorhome with a separate habitation door.

HEOSafe motorhome

HEOSafe additional locks for coachbuilt motorhomes with a habitation door

The cab doors are mechanically locked from inside with HEOSafe deadlocks. You then leave the vehicle through the separate habitation door. HEOSafe habitation-door and garage locks can be operated from both inside and outside.

Typical combination: one cab set for the driver and passenger doors plus one habitation lock. For a rear garage with two hatches, the keyed-alike set with three habitation locks is recommended.

HEOSafe panel vans & camper vans

HEOSafe additional locks for panel vans with sliding and rear doors

A panel van has no separate habitation door. In addition to the cab, the same HEOSafe VAN Security lock is therefore installed at different positions on the sliding and rear doors.

Typical combination: one cab set with two interior locks plus two identical VAN Security locks – one for the sliding door and one for the rear door. The locks can be supplied keyed alike.
Same lock for two installation positions

The same product is used on the sliding door or rear/wing door depending on installation position. Two units are normally required for both access points.

HEOSafe Fiat Ducato: model year & door generation

Which HEOSafe cab lock fits?

The actual door generation is decisive. X250 and X290 use the same older HEOSafe cab-lock version. Only Ducato Series 8 requires the newer version. For the Stellantis-based Opel Movano, model years 2021–2024 use the older version and model year 2025 onward uses the new one.

Ducato X250: 2006–2014

Older HEOSafe version.

Ducato X290: 2014–2021

Also uses the older HEOSafe version.

Ducato Series 8: from 2021

New HEOSafe version. The modernised steering wheel and revised door trim are useful visual identifiers.

The safest comparison: the door trim

Blinds & installation

Combining HEOSafe with REMIS and Dometic blinds

HEOSafe cab locks can also be installed with many factory or retrofit blind systems. The decisive factor is the frame fitted to the side door.

REMIS IV

The manufacturer instructions explicitly cover installation with REMIS IV. The blind frame is cut using a template; complete removal of the frame is normally not required.

  • manufacturer-documented installation
  • frame cut-out required
  • more work than without blinds

Dometic SP 300 / SP 310

The installation documents cover Dometic side blinds, especially SP 310. SP 300 can also generally be combined, but the fixing points and required cut-out must be checked carefully.

  • Dometic SP 310 for Ducato Series 8
  • Dometic SP 300 for older Ducato generations
  • blind frame must be adapted
Check before installation: blind systems differ. Verify model, fixing points and the supplied HEOSafe template before cutting the frame.

Installation video: HEOSafe lock on driver and passenger door

The video shows the basic installation. The steps are similar for the older and newer door generations. Always also follow the installation instructions supplied with the specific lock.

How much installation work is involved?

Low to medium

Cab set

Approx. 45–90 minutes for both doors; allow extra time when REMIS or Dometic frames need cutting.

Medium

VAN Security

Approx. 30–60 minutes per lock; usually around 1–2 hours for sliding and rear doors together.

Medium to higher

Habitation lock

Approx. 60–120 minutes per lock; trim or adapters can increase the effort.

Additional layer of protection

HEOSafe and Prickstop complement each other

Prickstop makes the known prick attack through the door skin more difficult and works permanently without operation. A HEOSafe additional lock provides a second mechanical locking point but must be actively locked.

Prickstop: passive basic protection

  • protects the critical area around the driver door
  • makes triggering central locking more difficult
  • works permanently without being locked each time

HEOSafe: active additional lock

  • independent of central locking and onboard power
  • helps even if the original lock is manipulated
  • keeps the relevant door mechanically secured

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about HEOSafe Ducato additional locks

What does “keyed alike” mean?

All locks in the set have the same locking code and use the same key.

Is the same set suitable for panel vans and coachbuilt motorhomes?

No. Coachbuilt motorhomes normally use habitation locks on the habitation door and garage. Panel vans use VAN Security locks on sliding and rear doors.

Do X250 and X290 use different HEOSafe cab locks?

No. Fiat Ducato X250 and X290 from 2006–2021 use the same older HEOSafe version. The new version is required only for Ducato Series 8.

Does HEOSafe directly protect against the prick attack?

HEOSafe adds a mechanical lock but does not prevent puncturing the outer door skin. Prickstop is designed for that attack point.

Does a HEOSafe lock work without electricity?

Yes. The locks are purely mechanical and independent of remote control, app, onboard battery and central locking.

Does the HEOSafe habitation lock fit every motorhome door?

No. Mounting surface, frame, seal, door thickness, gap and substrate must be checked before drilling.

Can HEOSafe be combined with REMIS blinds?

Yes, with many REMIS IV systems. The side frame is cut at the designated point using the HEOSafe template.

Can HEOSafe be installed with Dometic SP 300 or SP 310?

Yes, in principle. The blind frame must be cut or adapted according to vehicle generation, blind model and installation template.

How long does installation take?

Depending on the lock and installation situation, approximately 30 minutes to 2 hours per lock. A two-lock cab set usually takes about 45–90 minutes.

Is drilling required?

Yes. HEOSafe cab, VAN Security and habitation locks are permanently screwed in place and require drilling depending on the product.

Can I install a HEOSafe lock myself?

Many experienced motorhome owners do. Accurate measuring, suitable tools and safe drilling are essential; if unsure, use a professional installer.

Still unsure which HEOSafe version fits your vehicle?

Use the configurator to compare vehicle make, model year, vehicle type, steering wheel and door trim and find the appropriate HEOSafe door security.
